Q & A
1. Why has the competition deadline been extended through the weekend?
In order to prevent the site from overloading the
server as we approach the submission deadline, we will
be extending the deadline through the weekend. This
will ensure that everyone who wishes to submit a
competition entry will have the opportunity to do so!
All email entries must now by completed by:
Sunday, August 10th
8.10.08
midnight HADT
(Hawaii-Aleutian Daylight Time)
2. I am having problems filling out the entry form - and I do not have access to a scanner. How can I send this information to you by the deadline?
Unfortunately we were not able to have an interactive online entry form this year. We will work towards this in the future.
If you are able to print out the entry form, fill it out, and scan it back in, please do so. Otherwise, you can copy and paste the text below and just fill in the blanks in the email itself. We do not need to have THE exact copy of the entry form, but we do need to have all the information that is required on the entry form.

3. If I email my entry form and pictures, does the
contest fee also have to be in by August 10th, 2008? And, if I wait
until the last minute, how can I pay the contest fee and not miss the
deadline?
First, we encourage you to enter early, and
recommend that you aim for the early part of July 2008 to send in your
entry form, pictures, and fees. This ensures that if there are any
problems upon submitting your entry, they can be addressed before the
deadline. However, should you procrastinate; you may use our online
shopping cart to pay your entry fees online at the last minute. Be
advised, this could be a busy night for our shopping cart, and entries
need to be tagged by midnight, HADT on Sunday, August 10th, 2008.

4. I am a serious bead artist, but do not meet the definition of the "Professional" level. May I enter this category, or must I enter as a "Hobbyist"?
All contestants may enter at the level they qualify for or any above that. For instance, if you are technically a hobbyist, you may enter at either the "Hobbyist" level or at the "Professional" level. The competition will be stiffer at the higher level, but some may consider this level to have more prestige. The idea behind the levels is to allow entrants with different skill sets and experience to have an equal opportunity to win and have their piece(s) on display. Entrants may not enter the competition at a level lower than the one they qualify for.
5. Can I enter in just a hand-made bead or sculpture piece that I have made, or does it have to be a jewelry piece?
Simple answer - yes - please enter your hand-made beads as a single piece or in a collection. Other artwork which employs beads as the main element may also be submitted as long as it fits within the size requirements, see competition form for details.
While the competition is billed as an international juried jewelry design competition, we are celebrating beads as an artform - so whether you make your own beads, design using beads, or use beads in your artwork, we welcome it all.
We encourage you to break the bounds - this competition is for you and the public to see what is being done with bead artistry today, and for those to recognize beads and beadwork as a true artform.
If you make your own beads, especially lampwork beads, ceramic beads, and more - we want to showcase these to the world.
By utilizing jewelry - we can open the competition up to metalsmiths and more. Beadwork and jewelry are two amazing fields and they have both been a pasttime of mankind since the beginning of time. The first personal adornment items were beads.
6. Why do mailed entries need to be postmarked by July 25th, 2008, when the contest deadline is August 10th, 2008?
We are trying to run the contest
efficiently via online resources. We do realize that some contestants
may not have access to email, especially our international contestants.
We do not wish to exclude anyone, and by having the postmark set on
July 25th, 2008, helps to ensure that all entries can be accounted for
by August 10th, 2008 so that all contestants can have their pieces
juried. LATE POSTMARKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. If it is after July 25th, 2008, the only way for you to submit your entry is via email online.
7. Can two or more artists collaborate on a piece and enter it into this competition?
Yes, 2 or more artists may collaborate and enter a piece together. To do this, each person involved in the collaboration must put the piece down with the same information on the entry form. I suggest that you make this your first entry, and under number ” 1. Name of Piece:”, first write the word COLLABORATION, and then list the name of the piece. You will need to make a note of all the artists involved underneath the “Materials Used:” section, and/or make reference to this on the back of your entry form. You only need to pay the entry fee for this piece one time, so make sure that only one person pays the fee. This entry counts as 1 of 6 for each person in the collaboration, and counts for each person towards the multiple piece discount. Most collaborations will fall in the Mixed Media Category, however, some may not – discuss this carefully before you decide, as you will not be able to change this once the piece has been entered. For example, if a polymer clay artist and a PMC artist collaborate on a piece, the piece could enter into the Clay Media Category. However, if a lampwork artist and a PMC artist collaborate on a piece, you will enter the Mixed Media category so that all aspects of the piece are judged, not just the lampwork or just the PMC.
